Alissa Palmer
While Palmer primarily identifies as a painter, her creative journey often leads her down avenues beyond the canvas. At times, her art becomes the voice for emotions she struggles to articulate, while other times, it serves as a lens, becoming a tool to escape and focus on subjects outside of herself.
Taking after author Austin Kleon, here’s a “longer, more official-sounding version” of her artist statement…
Alissa Palmer is an interdisciplinary artist with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting from Illinois State University (2018). With a strong foundation in life drawing, plein air, and abstraction, she continually refines and intentionally unrefines her craft. Palmer's artistic journey is diaristic, driven by her exploration of the human condition. Her practice is characterized by its experimental and fluid nature, often incorporating diverse materials and techniques into her work. She recently moved to France. She found joy in beach-combing along the Pacific coast and has since replaced this with regular walks around her neighborhood on the outskirts of Paris, enjoying the historic parks.
Palmer has had solo exhibitions at Transpace Gallery and University Galleries (Normal, IL). Two-person exhibits at Normal Community College (Normal,IL) and University District Businesses Center (Seattle, WA). And has been included in group shows at Límite Azul, (Based in Rio Grande, Texas), The Hiawatha Art Club (Seattle, WA), and Oxbow School of Art (Saugatuck, MI). Her work can be found between the pages of the biannual journals of Papeachu Press and nestled in the homes of many.
